Day 22: Italiano…. Fun for the tongue…
“Let your tongue speak what your heart thinks.”
I find myself dreaming and contemplating what being in Italy is like as I learn this new and energetic language. Although I have never been to Italy, as I study my Italian, it is hard not to stop my mind from drifting like a Venetian Gondola to thoughts of what this country halfway around the world is like. I have this vision of an animated society that enjoys homemade rich foods and wine…a group of people that enjoy taking time from the day to simply indulge and smile….people that have no fear of expressing themselves and saying what needs to be said… and of wine glasses clinking to the sound of “Salute!”…. but back to the food!
I may not eat much in the day, but when I do, I savor every delicious and mouth- watering bite. Italian food has to be one of the greatest indulgences on earth… I did say, “One of!” 😉 Here is a video that was sent to me by a friend who knows that I have a great love for simple pleasures, of the edible kind… Every sinful bite of flavorful food to tempt the palate for more… My mouth is wet just thinking about these culinary delights!!!
Now back to the lesson…. The Italian language is considered one of the “Romance” languages and it must be, because the words effortlessly roll off the tongue and you have to use your hands to speak it.
It was a good 3rd week, learning simple phrases and responses and learning to follow and engage in small conversation. I am practicing as much as time will allow, and I am satisfied to say that I am able to still remember the phrases days after the lesson…
Absolutely loving the Italian language and of course, all the simple pleasures the Italian culture has to offer… wondering what tomorrow will bring!
Arrivederci! A domani!
