Day 29: Italiano!!!

“I love the language, that soft bastard Latin, Which melts like kisses from a female mouth, And sounds as if it should be writ on satin With syllables which breathe of the sweet South.”

-George Gordon Noel Byron

I’ve discovered that if you are going to speak Italian well, you have to finesse the words with your hands and your tongue.

It is the 4th week of my Italian lessons and dare I say, I am still loving it!  The lesson this week was a bit more complicated than the previous 3, which is to be expected, but I did do the lesson twice just to try and absorb as much as I could.

Several people have asked how long I will be doing the lessons.  I plan to continue the lessons as long as possible.  Then, I will take my romance language lessons in private and only blog on them in the very end.  So don’t worry, these Italian blogs won’t have to be endured for too much longer! 😉

Back to the lesson… this week, the lesson continued with short conversations.   I am allowing my mouth to let the words flow right off my tongue.  I am now finding that as I train my tongue, my hands are having an ever more prominent place when expressing my words and phrases.  I am quite astounded how the words have new meaning when I use my hands to show how emphatic or excited I am.   I almost feel as if my energy is being transferred to the other person with my gestures.

My absolute favorite word to say in Italian is “Arreverdirci!”  I feel as if my mouth is in a delicate dance with my tongue to form the rolling “R” and once said, I always find myself smiling.

arrivederci

Many more words and phrases to learn and conversations to hold, but all I can say happily right now is “Arreverdici!”  … 🙂   Wondering what tomorrow will bring!
